Hip flexor pain is a very common condition that affects both people who are very physically active and people who are also quite sedentary.
What do we mean by hip flexor pain?
Hip flexors are the group of muscles that allow you to lift your knee to your chest and bend at the waist. There are two main muscles that people often have problems with: the iliopsoas muscle and rectus femoris (rec fem).
You will usually feel pain in your hip, back, or discomfort in the groin region. Your hip may feel sore to the touch, and the pain will increase if you stretch your hip flexor muscles or move your knee towards your chest. The pain can come on quite suddenly or over some time.
What movements are affected?
Typically symptoms of hip flexor pain will make simple things like walking and running difficult. Even walking
upstairs or putting shoes on can be painful.
What causes this type of pain?
At the clinic we commonly see patients who fit into two main categories:
- Firstly, people who have been doing a lot of gym work and have strained these muscles,
especially while doing squats or dead lifts. - Second, people who sit for long periods of time, such as at work. This can cause the muscles to weaken and shorten, in turn causing pain.
We provide effective treatment for this condition at Our Chiro Chiropractor Brisbane on a weekly basis.
At Our Chiro Chiropractor Brisbane we use many different techniques to treat hip flexor pain. These techniques can include: soft tissue work, needling, mobilisation, kinesiology taping, exercise
